Biographical notes:
- his earliest painting was done in 1902, when he was a teenager.
- he was taught painting by Sam Lockerby, an English man who worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company, and by the wife of Dr. Osterhaut, who was a resident of Port Simpson.
- he painted many village scenes in a naturalistic style, working form old Dawson and Dosseter photos.
- he also carved; one of his totem poles is on Portage Inlet on the Nanaimo highway, and he also carved a large Thunderbird-style figure for Sioux Narrows, Ontario. Dr. Large, a Prince Rupert physician and collector, has a carving of a shaman by Dudoward.
- in his paintings he did many copies, and repeated himself often.
- he ran a shop in Port Simpson, called the "Thunderbird Totempole Shoppe," specializing in souvenirs and homecrafts.
- he often signed his name as "Chas. H. Dudoward".
- Dudoward took voice training in Chicago, and also earned his private detective papers.
- was actually of Tsimshian origin, but produced some of his work in the Kwagiutl style.
- his daughter’s name is Mrs. Betty Sampson.
- this collection contains 48 of his paintings.
